Flood Group
About Flood Group
Flood Group is a striking assembly of geothermal features nestled in Wyoming's Midway Geyser Basin. Known for its vivid sinter terraces and the impressive Flood Geyser that routinely shoots water up to 25 feet high, this site offers an intense glimpse into the planet’s geothermal power. The pools here, including the visually captivating Circle Pool, present a raw and immersive hot springs experience unique among hot springs in Wyoming.
Getting There
Reaching Flood Group requires navigating Midway Geyser Basin’s established boardwalk trails, making access straightforward yet ensuring you stay safe near hot geothermal areas. Parking is available at the main visitor center lot, and from there, you can walk on well-maintained paths to the springs and geysers without strenuous hiking.
What to Expect
As a primitive hot spring setting, the water in Flood Group reaches a scorching 203°F—too hot for soaking, but fascinating to observe. The area maintains a quiet, awe-inspiring atmosphere due to its geothermal activity and relatively controlled visitor movement. Facilities are limited to boardwalks and informational signs, preserving the springs' natural ambiance.
Tips for Visitors
Visit early in the day to avoid crowds and capture better lighting for photos of erupting geysers and pools. Dress in layers as steam changes the microclimate around the springs. Respect all posted safety warnings and stay on designated walkways to protect both yourself and these fragile Wyoming swimming holes.
