About Graveyard Fields
Graveyard Fields offers a refreshing escape with its cold mountain waters cascading into a spacious natural pool. Located along the Blue Ridge Parkway, this hybrid spring blends the thrill of a hiking adventure with the comfort of swimming holes found in North Carolina. Its dramatic waterfalls and cool currents invite you to unwind amidst the region's lush forested landscape.
Getting There
From milepost 419 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, park on the west side where limited spots fill quickly on summer weekends. A moderate 15-minute hike along marked trails leads you to Second Falls, then onward down a tall wooden staircase to reach the base of Lower Falls where the main swimming hole awaits. Be prepared for some elevation change and uneven footing.
What to Expect
The water is crisp and invigorating, a pleasant respite from the summer heat, though the area can become quite busy as visitors share the large pool. You’ll find a natural, rugged environment with no man-made facilities, so the atmosphere remains wild and authentic. The sound of rushing falls complements the lively chatter of fellow swimmers.
Tips for Visitors
Plan your visit for early in the day or weekdays to avoid peak crowds and secure limited parking. Bring sturdy footwear for the trail and a towel for drying off. There are no fees, but stay mindful of preserving the natural setting by packing out all trash. If Graveyard Fields feels overcrowded, nearby Skinny Dip Falls offers a quieter alternative.
