About High Falls

High Falls is a striking cold spring nestled at the base of a broad 10-foot waterfall in West Virginia. This deep, crystal-clear pool offers a refreshing plunge and an exhilarating spot for jumping into cool, natural waters. The raw beauty of this primitive spring invites you to immerse yourself in unspoiled nature.

Getting There

Reaching High Falls demands effort, as there is no direct road access. You can hike a challenging, 60+ minute trail through rugged terrain, or approach by train via the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad from Elkins to Bemis. Parking space is very limited near the trailhead, so plan accordingly and prepare for a rigorous journey.

What to Expect

Expect cool, invigorating water in a serene and secluded environment far from crowds. The atmosphere is wild and peaceful, with the sound of cascading water filling the air. Facilities are nonexistent, so this spot truly offers an authentic experience among West Virginia swimming holes.

Tips for Visitors

Visit during warmer months for comfortable swimming; year-round access is possible but prepare for chilly water. Bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water for the hike, as the trail is strenuous and well-marked. There is no entry fee, but practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve this primitive hot springs area.
