About Scaredman

Scaredman is a refreshing cold spring nestled in the heart of Oregon’s wilderness, known for its expansive natural pools surrounded by smooth sand and rugged rocks. This primitive spot offers a genuine outdoor swimming hole experience, where both shallow and deep areas invite you to swim, float, or simply relax in cool, crystal-clear water.

Getting There

To reach Scaredman, drive along Canton Creek Road about two miles past Canton Creek Falls until you see signs for Scaredman Campground. Just beyond the campground turnoff, park near the bridge—there’s no hiking needed to access the swimming hole, which lies upstream of the bridge. Parking is limited, so arrive early to secure a spot.

What to Expect

Expect cool, inviting water that provides an invigorating contrast to the summer heat. The pools are spacious, with natural stone seating perfect for resting between swims. The primitive setting means minimal facilities, lending a serene, authentic vibe that highlights the beauty of Oregon swimming holes without crowds or commercial distractions.

Tips for Visitors

Visit during the summer when the water is most enjoyable and the weather is warm. Bring sturdy water shoes to navigate the rocky areas safely, and pack out all trash to help preserve this natural spot. No fees are required, but limited parking means timing your visit for less busy parts of the day improves your experience.
